Jerry Marshall Martin

Jerry Marshall Martin, 78, passed away October 1, 2023, following a tragic accident at his home in Oregon. Born in Portland, Oregon on September 9, 1945, to Marshall Martin and Ernestine (Finn) Martin. He is preceded in death by his parents, and his sister Karen Lee Martin.

Jerry is lovingly remembered by his wife Wanda Martin; daughters Shauna Schraft, Diana Mcghee, and Adrian Phoenix; stepsons Jason and Paul Maglecic; Nephew Charles Martin; Niece Brenda Stoecker; several grandchildren and a community that admired him for his wit, strength and kindness.

Growing up in Stibnite and Fruitvale, Idaho, at 14 he faced the early death of his father. This led to him moving with his mother to Nampa, Idaho, where he completed high school. Next, an honorable six years in the Idaho National Guard instilled in him a strong dedication to Country, Duty and Service.

Jerry’s love of his home in Fruitvale soon drew him back. He went directly into logging, a testament to his strength, resilience, and commitment. He once again enjoyed hunting and spending time with this lifelong friend and father figure Del Merk. During this time, he also built a new home on his place. He did most of the work himself because most of the work was done after work and weekends. He liked to figure out how to get a job done by himself. But he liked to learn from those that did the specialty work.

Jerry was a master carpenter. He built a huge workshop. He also built new cabinets and special furniture pieces for his home in Oregon City and gifts for his friends. While working as a logger for Columbia Helicopter Company, they offered him a position that would take him to exotic places: Peru, Ecuador, Malaysia, New Guinea among others. Jerry loved working for Columbia. He made lasting friendships and enjoyed the adventures that these exotic places had to offer. He willingly shared stories about those adventures with family and friends.

A Celebration of Jerry’s Life will be at 1:00 p.m. on May 25, 2024, at 2048 Highway 95, the Exhibit Hall at the Adams County Fairgrounds in Council, Idaho. Free dry camping and RV parking. Please come and share your stories. Casual attire. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to a charity of choice in Jerry’s memory.
