It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of William Douglas McAlvain, a beloved resident of Council/Boise, Idaho, who passed away peacefully on August 8, 2024, at the age of 84.
Born on May 7, 1940, in Dixon, CA, Doug, was a man of immense integrity, compassion, and dedication. He spent his entire life enriching the communities he loved, becoming a cornerstone of kindness for many.
Doug was a graduate of Analy High School, class of 1958. His professional career spanned over four decades in the construction industry, where he founded McAlvain Construction Inc. a family-owned business known for its quality and integrity. Under his leadership, the company grew significantly, contributing to the changing skyline of Boise and the Pacific Northwest while providing countless career and job opportunities for Idaho’s Workforce.
Beyond his professional achievements, Doug was a devoted family man. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Serena McAlvain, their four children, Tony (Maureen) McAlvain, Tonyah McAlvain Lee, Tuesday (Clinton) Yaka and Torry (Kimberly) McAlvain, Eight cherished grandchildren; Melissa (Torrey) Bollinger, Paul (Vanessa) McAlvain, Brandie (Jason) Ambroz, Carissa (Micah) Harley, Torry Jr. (Jillian) McAlvain, Shane (Hannah) Lee, Taylor McAlvain and Ayden McAlvain as well as Thirteen Great-Grandchildren. Doug’s family was his pride and joy, and he took great pleasure in supporting and celebrating their achievements.
Doug was also deeply involved in his community. He was a past President of Associated General Contractors of Idaho, a longtime supporter of the Boise Athletic Association, a generous contributor of local charities, and a mentor to many young professionals in the construction industry. His commitment to giving back was evident in his volunteer work and philanthropic efforts, all of which has left a lasting impact on numerous regional not-for-profit organizations.
An avid outdoorsman, Doug loved exploring Idaho’s natural beauty. He spent many weekends fishing, hunting and camping with family and friends, creating memories that will be treasured forever. His greatest legacy is passing on his love for hunting and fishing with his children and grandchildren. His grand stories of adventure and his laughter will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Besides the love for his children and grandchildren he enjoyed a cold Michelob Light.
Doug’s true joy was the years he and Serena spent at “The Ranch”. He was able to realize his childhood dream of living on and owning a ranch.
A celebration of Doug’s life will be held on September 21, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at the Cathedral of the Rockies in Boise. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Doug’s memory to their favorite charity.
The family is grateful to everyone at Cornerstone Senior Living, and to Keystone Hospice. They kept him safe, embraced his independence and gentle nature and loved and respected him with their service, quality care and compassion.
Doug McAlvain’s legacy of love, generosity, and dedication will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and the entire Council/Boise community. May he rest in peace.
