This picture was taken in 1893 during a meeting of two schools (probably the Lower Council and White schools), with children from the Harp, Kesler, Moser, Hollenbeak, and Winkler families. The two schools were the Council school and Valley School. The teacher, standing at the far left, is Dora Black. This school was built in 1887 near an older school site, on the east side of present-day North Galena Street, north of what became the town of Council.
