On Saturday, October 4, 2024, the Upper Country Education Foundation held its 14th annual Rush Creek Stampede. The Upper Country Education Foundation is an organization that helps the schools in the surrounding area. All the proceeds from the race go to the foundation and local schools such as Cambridge and Midvale. The UCEF has tremendously impacted our local schools, and the race would have been impossible without all the sponsors and support.

Race time check-in was promptly at 7:30 a.m. at Cambridge Elementary. Participants were then bussed to Rush Creek, where the race started about a quarter mile up the road. Some runners chose to jog from the school to Rush Creek and warm up before the race began.

Runners checked their race numbers, got ready, and stretched, creating a blend of dedicated racers and participants out to have a great time with friends and family during the race.

The half marathon began at 8:50 a.m. while the 5k started at 9:15, with 192 participants. The course comprises Rush Creek Road leading up to the Y, where runners then loop back down and onto the highway, crossing the finish line at the elementary school. Along the course, there were a total of 5 check stations providing runners with drinks.

Rush Creek Stampede has gained popularity over the years. It is well known for its beautiful scenery, wildlife sightings, and challenging terrain. More than one runner commented on the race’s difficulty, which included many uphill climbs. Many racers are from Idaho, Oregon, and California, making this race on everyone’s list. The race suits families; many participants bring their children and dogs along.

The first people to grace the finish line were the 5k runners, with the fastest time being 19 minutes and 23 seconds. The first three winners, including both men and women, receive medals. The 5k winners are as listed - for men: Pete Davis, Berry Dew, and Marcos Tarelo. There are Evangeline Davis, Nancy Lazaro, and Rosario Ixta for women.

The first three men’s half-marathon winners are Carlos Trujillo, Benjamin Monaghan, and Nathan Wiggins. The women’s half-marathon winners are Jessica Oliver, Kayla Krach, and Jenn Wilson.
