ACSO Awards Deputies for Life Saving Actions

On 08/11/2024, Adams County Sheriff’s Deputies Matthew Smith and Travis Rogers responded to a medical call which was several miles south of their location. The patient was suffering from a possible overdose and could not breathe. He was in and out of consciousness.
Upon arrival, both Deputies entered the residence and assisted EMS with a barely conscious adult male lying face down on the floor. After EMS administered the first dose of Narcan, both Deputies observed that the patient was not conscious or breathing. Deputy Rogers immediately knelt over and shook him, which woke him up and allowed him to start breathing. At that time, Deputy Smith retrieved the gurney from outside and rolled it next to the patient, who was again unconscious.
Upon seeing that the individual was not breathing, Deputy Smith lifted him off the floor and placed him on the gurney. While Deputy Rogers continued attempting to keep the patient awake, Deputy Smith ran outside and backed the ambulance up to the front door of the residence.
For approximately 34 minutes during the transport to the hospital, Deputy Rogers performed life saving measures as the patient was in and out of consciousness and not breathing. I would like to recognize both Deputies for their life saving actions and their exemplary service beyond the ordinary call of duty.
