Adams County 4-H Horse Club field trip.

The Adam’s County Horse 4-H Club has been busy! Both Jennifer Rininger and Tyanne Roland went to Boise, Friday January 27. The trip involved presenting to the Idaho Horse Board for a possible grant opportunity. The grant would allow the club to purchase 3 different types of educational equine kits for the youth. These kits would help the youth learn about the horse breeds, nutrition, feed management, body systems such as the respiratory, reproduction, ligaments, tendons, and riding equipment.

The Horse 4-H Club met last Monday and had a lesson on all the different horse colors and markings and played Horse Color Bingo. The club spoke about what Horse Bowl and Horse Hippology was and are deciding if they would like to participate in the 4-H events. There is a district competition which can lead to a state level competition all about horses. The next meeting will be Monday, February 5th at 4:30 held in the meeting room at the U of I Extension Office.

The Horse Club rounded out their weekend by taking their first field trip to Boise. The Horse Youth visited the BLM Wild Horse Corrals to watch other 4-H Horse Clubs adopt their mustang in hand projects for the year. The trip was to introduce the program for those interested in participating in the future. The approved clubs picked their wild mustang projects to take home and train in halter, loading and ground challenges to sell at the Idaho Horse Expo Event in April. The idea is for the club to see the wild horses at the beginning then see them at the Expo and how they turned out after 3 months. 13 horse kids and their family attended the field trip and look forward to seeing the Idaho Horse Expo in April. Those in the Horse club and Photography club were encouraged to bring their cameras and try their hand at shooting photos of the wild horses!

Photography Club will meet Tuesday, February 6th at 4:30 p.m. held at the U of I Extension Office Meeting room.

Small Animals and Goat 4-H will have their next meetings Tuesday, February 13th and 27th at 6:00 p.m. in the meeting room at the U of I Extension Office. Don’t forget to bring your yearly goals! The Club went over how to correctly pick out your animal for fair and how to properly house them. Contact the Extension Office if you are interested in a market goat project and need animals, there are also some Bunnies available too. Please don’t forget your Bill of Sales and Brand Inspection when buying an animal market project!
