The Lincoln Day dinner crowd listening to keynote speakers.

Last Saturday’s Adams County Republican’s Lincoln Day Event surpassed all expectations with an overflow crowd. Folks gathered to celebrate the founder of the Republican Party and to hear and weigh the strengths of candidates seeking to serve the people of Adams County and Idaho’s Legislative District 7.

The event kicked off with the ceremonial flag posting presented by members the local Bert Harpham American Legion Post 72. Immediately following was a beautiful singing of the National Anthem and America the Beautiful by Alanna Brandt and Elizabeth Markley. Chairman Keith Markley then offered an invocation. The evening’s events were emceed by prosecuting attorney Chris Boyd who also received the Adams County Republican’s Freedom Award for his efforts and achievements in safeguarding citizen’s freedoms.

The Republican May 21st primary election ballot has three contested seats. Kyle Harris and Jim Chmelik running for retiring Mike Kingsley’s District 7A seat, Larry Dunn and Charlie Shepherd running for District 7B seat, as well as Ryan Zollman and Kenn Roller running for Adams County Sheriff.

Along with hearing from each candidate, GOP Republican Chairwoman Dorothy Moon shared insights into the continuing fight to stand for the Idaho and United States Constitutions and Bill of Rights. She also spoke about the dangers of Ranked Choice Voting and the very negative impact it would have on Idaho. The keynote speaker, Idaho Attorney General Raul Labrador, discussed many of the issues facing Idaho and the outside pressures attempting to change Idaho law.

Broken Bowl Catering based in New Plymouth provided their famous Brisket and Pork BBQ dinner, while many local businesses and individuals donated to the silent and live auctions. Luke Nolte, Northwest Regional Award winning auctioneer, elevated the crowd’s interest in beautiful handmade quilts, firearms, ammunition and an American flag flown over the United States capital and donated by Senator James Risch. The silent auction items were beautiful, patriotic, fun, exciting, and some were very yummy.

The Dessert Dash selections overwhelmed the eyes as some lucky first place winners lost their first choice as others swooped in and snagged the very dessert they were pondering on. Hence the term “Dash”!

The Adams County Republican Central Committee expresses deep gratitude to donors, supporters and volunteers, along with all who attended to make this annual event so successful.

All Funds raised are used to support local and state candidates and bring awareness to issues, which affect our community, state and county.
