The former Art & Antiques storefront at 75 N Superior St in Cambridge.

As we usher in the new year of 2025, we mourn the loss of another cherished establishment in Cambridge - Art & Antiques.

Prior to being Art & Antiques by Nina Hawkins, the establishment was known as Lorton Drugstore, managed by Clare and Margaret Lorton, who were significant figures in the Cambridge Community. The Lorton Drugstore held a special place in the hearts of many who remember enjoying ice cream or soda and purchasing necklaces for their mothers. Clare Lorton also contributed weekly columns titled “Let’s Visit” for the News-Reporter.

Nina Hawkins acquired the building in 2020 and transformed it into a store specializing in Art & Antiques, showcasing some of her own artwork as well. Nina, much like the Lortons, is a key member of the community, and her shop will be deeply missed. We extend our best wishes to Nina Hawkins as she embarks on her next chapter. You can still see her around town at her free watercolor art class at the library, held once a month on Wednesdays. Additionally, we eagerly anticipate the arrival of a new business to take over that location.
