The local conversation surrounding personal health and community well-being is undergoing a shift in Cambridge. Residents are increasingly trading sedentary routines for active lifestyles, sparking a town-wide movement that will culminate this Independence Day in a historic celebration of health, history, and community unity.

The recently concluded Cambridge America250 Walking Challenge has officially crossed the finish line as a resounding success, bringing together 121 neighbors of all ages to promote fitness, wellness, and local connection. Spearheaded by Kara Lincoln—a student-athlete on the Tri-Valley Titans teams and member of the Midvale School District FCCLA—the challenge was specifically designed to combat sedentary lifestyles and get the town moving.

Participants accepted the ambitious goal of walking 250 miles between April 1 and June 15, averaging roughly 3.5 miles (7,000 to 8,000 steps) each day. An incredible 72 people successfully completed the 250-mile milestone.

To honor this incredible community dedication, a special awards ceremony will take place during the morning festivities. Mayor Mark Loveland and Kara Lincoln will take the stage to present certificates and commemorative America250 t-shirts—locally crafted by Windy Acres Design Shop — to the 72 determined finishers. Right after the ceremony, a commemorative group photo of all the Walking Challenge finishers will be taken at the park.

The rewarding finisher system was made possible through the generous backing of eight local business sponsors, including Cornucopia Coffee House, Halfway, OR, Loveland’s General Store, Blake’s Sinclair, Frontier Motel, City of Cambridge, Cambridge Lumber, Gladhart LLC and Windy Acres Design Shop & Family Farm.

To keep that vibrant community spirit going, the city of Cambridge is making history this Independence Day by hosting its first-ever Free Community Breakfast. This inaugural event offers a brand-new way for locals and visitors to gather, connect, and fuel up together before the day’s traditional festivities begin.  The breakfast will be served Saturday, July 4 from 8:00 – 10:00 a.m. at Water Tower Park. No charge for this event.

At 9:00 a.m. there will be a Flag Raising Ceremony, National Anthem, and 250-Mile Walking Challenge Awards Ceremony & Group Photo presented by Mayor Mark Loveland and Kara Lincoln. This will take place during breakfast. Menu for breakfast includes classic, hearty morning favorites including pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage, yogurt, fresh coffee, and juice.

This breakfast is paid for by a $2,500 America250 grant received from the Idaho State Treasurer’s Office. The grant program honors America’s upcoming 250th birthday by funding events that encourage community engagement, deeper local connections, and a celebration of our shared history. By aligning with the elements of a healthy community, Cambridge is successfully making active, healthy choices the local default.

Whether you are celebrating a personal mileage milestone from the Walking Challenge or looking to make history at the town’s very first community-wide breakfast at Water Tower Park, this July 4th promises to showcase the very best of Cambridge. All residents and visitors are highly encouraged to come out early, cheer on our 72 local finishers during the photo session, enjoy a hot meal, and celebrate the town’s growing community pride
