Candidate Forum Held in Council
On Thursday, October 23, The Record Reporter hosted a Meet the Candidate Night at the Council Elementary Multipurpose room for the upcoming Election. Candidates from all the competitive elections in Council were invited, which at the time of the forum was pared down to two candidates running for School Board Zone 4, and two candidates running for Mayor of Council. Originally, Doug Herren and Lana Wessels, both running for Adams County Parks and Recreation District Zone 5, had been planning to attend as well, however, Doug Herren withdrew from the race, leaving it to incumbent Lana Wessels. Similarly, there were originally three candidates for the mayoral race, incumbent Dr. Bruce Gardner, Channel Sanderson, and Write-in candidate Gabe Wilson, however, Channel Sanderson withdrew from the race and endorsed write-in candidate Gabe Wilson, who is challenging the current Mayor Gardner.
The night started with questions for the candidates running for Council School Board Zone 4, incumbent Earl Henderson, and former Council High School teacher Chloe Lucas, challenging for the seat. The questions ranged from topics like math curriculum to how to bring back students to the school, and both candidates were respectful and had similar, if slightly differing, views. Next, the Mayoral Candidate answered questions from the audience on their views, plans, and past decisions. After the candidates were done taking questions the community was able to mingle and socialize while enjoying refreshments provided by the Adams County Republican Central Committee. It was an informative evening.

Another Candidate Forum is planned for New Meadows Candidates on Thursday, October 30 at 6 p.m. at The Depot and will also be available on YouTube. The election is November 4th.
