Cambria Longtin and her humane trap for feral cats.

Cambria Longtin, who will be a senior at Council High School when school resumes, has a unique and useful senior project, which she plans to start in July and finish before the snow falls.

She has a love and passion for animals and plans to become a veterinarian. Currently, she is working part time for Heartland Animal Hospital in Council.

Because Council has a large number of feral cats, she plans to trap feral cats, take them to the hospital, give them rabies shots and spay or neuter them. She said the cats will likely recover in two to three days, and her mentor, Bruce Gardner, will perform the surgeries for free.

Longtin said she has three locations where she plans to trap the cats. She said that currently, she fears that some of the feral cats are being shot or driven over purposefully, which according to the Adams County Sheriff’s Department is illegal in the State of Idaho.

Once the cats are spayed or neutered, they will be ear tipped, so that in the event they are accidentally re-trapped, people can easily tell that they have already been spayed or neutered.
