The New Meadows City Council held their regular meeting on Monday, March 9. In her report, Mayor Julie Good mentioned the CCTV cleaning and inspections being conducted by Integrity Inspection Solutions March 16-18. She said city staff have been clearing out the old City Hall building and sorting items. They have also been organizing records for filing or destruction, which will be done according to Idaho code after city council approval. Good said reminders about burn permits would be sent out, and noted there is no cost for these permits except between May and October.

The Meadows Valley Monday e-newsletter reported that the city’s new Community Calendar is live. The link to the calendar can be found on the city website https://www.newmeadowsidaho.us/ toward the bottom right corner. At the meeting, the Mayor noted a recent training for the calendar had been held. She said the calendar would mostly be for posting regularly occurring events, for example, Meadows Valley Community Center’s Monday luncheons. Good also said she had spoken with local hotels and they would be putting a QR code calendar link in rooms for visitors to see what is going on around the area.

Council members then entered into discussions beginning with Short Term Rentals and potential registration. A new Idaho House bill will be taken into consideration in this discussion at the next council meeting. Council member Traci Foster, who has taken on the role of city liaison with the Fire Department, said they seemed receptive to working together on details. Foster said the Fire Department currently does an inspection for short term rentals and has a pay schedule.

Mayor Good introduced a quick training on Public Hearings explaining the protocol and why they are held. She stated she wanted everyone to be aware of protocol ahead of a hearing scheduled for March 16. No members of the public attended the meeting to give comment regarding the sale of the old city hall building.

The Council then approved a dust abatement bid from GMCO after discussion and consideration of another bid. The second bid was from Ag Express, whom the City has not worked with in the past. Both vendors had favorable reviews. Although past issues with GMCO were addressed, the Council ultimately decided to go with the known vendor due to expected fees.

A resolution for Record Destruction was approved. Full verbiage of the resolution is available in the Council agenda packet from this meeting.

A resolution to adjust the City’s policy for Water-Sewer Service billing was approved. The new verbiage states the City will only allow late payment plans once per every 12 month period.

After an Executive Session, Council Members passed a motion to submit a small claims filing for back rent from the tenant at 106B Taylor.

Future meeting topics may include short term rentals, possible changes to the lease for the Industrial Park, an update from the Roads & Streets committee, audit report, and a new plan with Keller Associates for the New Meadows subdivision.
