Council Celebrates Halloween

On Saturday, October 25th, Council celebrated the season with a Halloween Festival hosted by the University of Idaho Extension Office. This was the second year the festival took place at the park in downtown Council, and even more exciting festivities were added. Many local businesses and individuals participated in a Trunk or Treat for the children, and dressed up their vehicles and booths. Pets were dressed up as well, and many participated in a pet costume contest the Extension Office hosted. There were games for the children, and a crew from the Council Valley Ambulance set up a Haunted House next door to Council Guns, who had also made a spooky graveyard for visitors. Three B’s Salon also had their room decked out as a spooky den. The Council Chamber of Commerce hosted a Chili Contest during the event. First place went to Mary Jane, Sponsored by The Boardroom at Wilson’s Lodge, with a classic Beef Chili. Cementing in the festive atmosphere was the music and dancing in the center of it all from the costumed Zumba ladies!
A very exciting new addition this year was the pumpkin patch that was set up in the park between the Rec center and Extension office. Over 300 pumpkins were donated by Purdoms Produce in Fruitland and Cherry Hill Farms in Caldwell. These were offered free to the children of the community. Jeff Glemser brought his horse team and wagon and offered rides from the festival downtown up to the pumpkin patch at the library park. The children were all so excited to climb up onto the hay bales and ride the horse drawn wagon to go pick out a pumpkin! It was a quintessential harvest festival experience, as were the children dressed in their favorite costumes frolicking in the colorful autumn leaves accumulating in the park.
Thank you to everyone who helped and contributed to this wonderful community event, and especially to Jennifer Rininger for everything she did to organize it. Happy Halloween!
