Council Elementary Holds Talent Show

On Thursday, April 17th, the Council School District hosted their first community wide talent show in the gymnasium at Council High School. The Talent Show was organized primarily by Council Special Education Aid, Rorrie Blanton, as a way to raise funds for the music department at the schools. It was open to both students and adults in the school district, as well as local homeschoolers. It was a wildly successful first event of its kind and was an evening full of fun, laughter, and tons of talent!
There were ten different acts that participated in “Show Time,” the talent show on Thursday. Students Alyvia Blodgett and Cambria Longtime acted as the Masters of Ceremonies for the evening, and announced and introduced each act as it arrived. The evening started out with introductions and the National Anthem was sung by Angie and Lynn Mendenhall, a cappella and in perfect harmony! Then the performances began, they ranged from singing and dancing, to dad jokes, to performances with live animals! Each act was judged by a panel of three consisting of Cheyenne Bennion, Milise Blanton, and Kari Dawn Iveson.
First, second, third, and fourth place winners were selected by the judges from among the talent. First place went to “The Devil Went Down to Council,” a highly creative choreographed dance full of basketball skills and tricks performed to the song “The Devil Went Down to Georgia.” Tylynn Tucker, Lilly Veselka, Eliza Bingham, Thaine Bauer, Jasper Bauer, Johnny Tucker, Brig Bingham, and Rylee Hatfield made up the performers. The number was coached and choreographed by Council Basketball coach Paula Tucker. It was an impressive and highly entertaining performance and they all did a wonderful job!
Second place was a close second though, and was awarded to Emerald Hart and Evelynn Collings, who performed a dance to “The Cat Song” with the aid of Emerald’s cats, Journey and Selina. The two girls, who homeschool locally, both choreographed the dance themselves and trained the cats to do tricks during the number. The audience loved it, and the act was practically purrfect in every way!
Third Place was five year old William Perino, who was a little guy that made a big impact on the audience and judges with his performance of “Big John.” Fourth place was Makenna LaGrone, who performed a cultural dance.
Overall, the night was a lot of fun and a huge success, raising over $1,000 in ticket sales and donations to go towards the Council music department. The event was so much fun, that the organizers are excited to make it an annual tradition, and bring it back soon to show off all of our local talent!
