Council Lions Seek More Volunteers

The Council Lions Club recently conducted our annual school vision screening, testing 153 youngsters at Council, New Meadows and Riggins Elementary schools. We screen Kindergarten, First, Third, and Fifth grades, and this year we screened preschoolers at Council.
Envision (formerly the Lions Sight and Hearing Foundation) loans the Council Lions the Plusoptix devices that were used. These devices only show suspected problems, which is categorized as a “referral”, they do not specifically indicate an actual problem. We did have a few vision referrals. We urge parents of students who have been identified for a vision referral to schedule a visit with an eye care specialist to verify their child’s visual condition. In the past this referral process has led to serious problems being detected by vision professionals.
Again, the Council Lions are aging as a group and some of us have difficulty getting around. If you are interested in assisting folks with vision screening, providing glasses for those who can’t afford them, and various community projects, please call (208) 253-0082.
