Council School District’s Athletic Advisory Committee (AAC), a volunteer group dedicated to supporting athletics for Council students from kindergarten through high school, has been in existence for over seven years. The original group came together to raise funds during some tough financial times for the District and achieved success in obtaining grant funds and generous financial and in-kind donations from the community to renovate the school track, provide new basketball hoops and a volleyball net, and fund PE equipment for the elementary grades. Over time, other large projects have included helping renovate a new weight room and supporting the complete renovation of the junior high/high school gym.

This group still meets monthly, and 2024 has been no less busy or productive than in years past. In the past, banquets have funded scholarships for two graduating seniors, helped provide the HUDL game film/statistics program for varsity sports, helped purchase equipment and uniforms for both junior high and high school teams as well as the secondary school weight room, provided food for end-of-season sports awards banquets, and helped with travel costs when a team makes it to a state tournament. School district athletic budgets are tight, and the AAC is happy to help the district stretch each dollar and offer quality athletic programs.

None of the work the AAC does would be possible without generous local businesses who, year after year, purchase ad banners to display along the highway and in the high school gym. These sponsor banners form the bulk of the AAC’s budget, along with the occasional grant (the Stibnite Foundation in 2023) and fundraiser (Kylee and Karen Hatfield, most recently). Take note of these businesses and support them as they support Lumberjack athletes.

The AAC is dedicated to ensuring even our small school student-athletes have quality equipment and uniforms and the opportunity to compete across the state. They are grateful for the long hours coaches put in to help each athlete develop skill on the playing field and character and discipline that will benefit them in any future endeavor. They feel proud to play a small part in supporting our Lumberjack Nation!
