In Council, the Adams County Sheriff’s Department has come to a hold harmless agreement with the Friends of the Weiser Trail, that will allow deputies and one person who works in the jail to park on the highway and drive an ATV to where their vehicles are parked north of the slide.

Sheriff Ryan Zollman said that deputies will still respond to incidents north of the slide-it may just take a bit longer to get there. He said the Idaho State Police and the Valley County Sheriff’s Department will help out as needed, as will the Idaho County Sheriff’s Department.

The judge who presides at the Adams County Courthouse has said that prosecutor Pete Donovan may attend court remotely during the road closure, according to Adams County Commissioner Joe Iveson.

Iveson has his own commuting problems, because he has 150 cows in Riggins that he needs to check on every five days so he will have to go around to get there.

Jon Sorg, pastor of Heartland Community Church in New Meadows, plans to have his wife drop him off at the south end of the trail and walk to the north end where he hopes to grab a ride so that he can hold services each Sunday during the closure. She will be waiting for him after the service to bring him back to Council. Contractor Braun-Jensen is now operating a UTV shuttle to bridge the gap across the closure.
