Editor’s note: An article with more information on the levy and a Q&A with district superintendent Brian Joyce is in the works.

The Council School District held a public meeting March 3 at the Council Elementary School to present information on the upcoming levy that they are asking voters to consider on May 19.

The levy in question is for two years at $250,000 per year for $500,000 total. If passed, the levy would cost property owners about $50 per $100,000 of taxable property value.

Originally, the district planned on using levy funds, if passed, to pay for teacher aides salary and benefits as well for some athletics. Interim Superintendent Brian Joyce stated by email that the district is dropping the athletics portion of the levy due to feedback received at this meeting. The dollar amount of the levy is not changing.

A video recording of this meeting is on The Record Reporter Youtube channel at https://youtu.be/_2v82sGhRnA. You can also search ‘The Record Reporter’ on Youtube to find the channel and video.
