A meeting of the Meadows Valley School Board of Trustees took place on the evening of January 23, 2023. Nine people were in attendance.

The annual selection of Board Chairman, Vice Chairman and Clerk/District Treasurer couldn’t be accepted since only three board members were present.

The regular board meetings will continue to be the 2nd Tuesday of every month at 7 o’clock in the school library. The agenda will be posted on the school district’s website and at city hall.

Signature cards were authorized for the board chair, clerk and superintendent signatures.

Stephanie Becker was sitting in on the meeting and is considering being a new trustee.

The Superintendent/Principal’s report announced that the second semester started Monday, January 22, and that there is a new PE instructor.

Dee Fredrickson has been spending a lot of time talking to parents about the attendance policy. Some high school students have not been in classes enough to receive credit. District policy requires 90% attendance. This will result in them not getting credit for those classes. Families can file an appeal about this with the school board and come to the next meeting on February 13th.

Behavior has been good.

Junior High basketball is under way.

The Student Council has lost a couple officers and will need re-selection.

The technology report showed that some servers need to be updated.

A grant of $20,000 was received for front entry work in the building. The total cost will be $25,000.

The school has some water damage in Ms. Kerby’s room, the men’s staff bathroom, and the janitor’s room. This was caused by a water leak. Disaster Response cleaned it up and gave a quote of $6,600 to repair the damage. The school is hoping the city’s insurance will cover this expense since the leak happened because of a city water pressure surge.

A few doors on the school building are having trouble working when the weather is cold.

Celebration of Learning took place and Senior Projects were presented on Wednesday the 24th.

Report cards went out Friday, the 26th.

The decision on a date for Graduation was tabled until February 13th.

A Food Allergy Management Policy was approved.

Barb Dixon and Dee attended a conference. The classes they took included Everything a Board Member Needs to Know about School Finances; Communicating the Role and Work of a School Board to your Community; and Increasing Family and Community Engagement through Community/School Strategy.
