Harmon & Terry Horton, Grand Marshals for Midvale 4th of July Parade

Harmon is a third generation Horton in Midvale, having been raised on the same farm he owns today. After leaving home in 1973, he returned to Midvale in 1977 to take up farming for himself as well as helping his parents on the family farm. In 1981, he was convinced (after much persuading by June Craig and Marilyn Williams) to meet the newest single girl in town, Terry Myers.
Terry moved to Midvale from Yucaipa, California in 1976. She and Harmon married after a whirlwind romance (first date to married in just over 3 months in 1981). They welcomed their first daughter Brandi in 1983, and their second daughter Jennifer in 1985.
Harmon and Terry have both been involved in many community organizations over the years. They farmed, owned and operated Horton’s Repair, and each took on a role with the Middle Valley Ditch Corporation. Terry was their secretary/treasurer for 29 years, and Harmon served as a board member for 3 years, as president for 33 years, and as ditch rider for 14 years. They also each held positions with Water District 67; Terry as the secretary/treasurer for 17 years, and Harmon as vice chairman.
Harmon was an EMT and the Assistant Fire Chief for the Midvale Volunteer Fire Department for several years before becoming a Fire Commissioner; a position he is still serving in today. Together with Keith Morgan, he started the Midvale 4th of July Tractor Pull with the volunteer firemen, which ran every July 4th in town for 20 years. He was also the Washington County Weed Advisory Board Chairman for 12 years, and continues to serve as a board member.
Terry was a member of the Midvale Boosters, and the Midvale Swimming Pool Board for many years, while keeping the books for the tractor pull, Horton’s Repair, and Horton Farms along with her two secretarial positions. In 2011 she became the Middle Valley Waterways Project Coordinator, a job she still does with the Washington County Weed Department.
Harmon and Terry still live on Horton Farms in Midvale as the fourth generation owners/operators. They help out their neighbors when they can, and are attempting retirement with varying degrees of success (Harmon especially cannot relax for long). They enjoy time with their ever-growing family, and love being grandparents to Mason, Derek and Paisley. Most of all, they feel blessed to live in such a great community as ours!
