Idaho Power Tax Refund Will Cost City Thousands
At the end of the regular meeting of the Midvale City Council Monday evening, clerk Mariah Johnson shared an e-mail she received from the Washington County Treasurer. It listed the amounts that individual taxing districts are expected to pay back to the county so it can refund back-taxes to Idaho Power. The total from all taxing districts in the county will be $1.1 million. The amount expected from the City of Midvale is $3,593. There was much discussion on the matter but no action taken since the item was information only. It is of note that the letter was received the same week as most people received their winter weather January power bills.
The council approved a 30-year airport lease agreement for Parker Arrien who is planning to build a hanger at the airport. They also approved the bid from Freedom Sprinklers to service all the sprinklers in the city parks.
When asked about finding a city attorney, it was mentioned that True Pearce was acting as prosecuting attorney through December. The city is still seeking an attorney to advise them on legal matters.
The city is using a building inspector from the city of Weiser on a case by case basis.
Mariah was pleased to report that the annual audit is complete and has been filed with the state, which is ahead of the January 31 deadline.
The January water bills reflected the new $22.10 base rate approved by the council earlier.
The next regular meeting of the council will be February 10.
