Lava Fire Merges with Boulder Fire
The Lava Fire, which merged with the Boulder Fire last week, now has a much larger crew working on it.
According to Public Information Officer Vicky Edge, a level one complex incident management team took over the fire last Wednesday, and there are currently 825 people assigned to the fire, which was at that time, six percent contained.
Many of the firefighters, who up until Wednesday evening were located in Ola, or at a spike camp in Cascade, moved last Wednesday night to Indian Valley.
This is the same team that worked on the Limepoint fire until they were relocated on August 12th. Level one complex teams are the most skilled of the five levels of firefighting teams.
As of September 17th, the 97,844-acre fire has cost $10.1 million.
Edge said the rain on the night of September 11th calmed fire activity.
“Most of the fire received a quarter inch of rain; some spots received a half an inch. But much of that moisture stayed in the tree canopy and did not reach the ground,” she said.
Evacuation orders in Adams County as of Tuesday were level one, get ready for Mesa, North of South Grays Creek Rd to State Highway 95, and for South of Grays Creek Road along the Little Weiser Road.
There are currently two helicopters working on the fire: a type one and a type two.
