Literacy Week to be March 4-7
On February 21, 2024, the Cambridge school board held their regularly scheduled meeting on Wednesday, February 21.There was a lot to talk about including the fact that illnesses are making the rounds at both schools, mainly colds and flu. There were 21 students who called out sick the day before on Tuesday the 20th at the elementary school. A similar situation took place at the middle/high school.
Mrs. Vowel gave an update of what’s happening at the elementary school. She mentioned recent field trips sponsored by the PTSA and a play at the school titled Finn McCoy presented by the Idaho Shakespeare Theatre to take place on Thursday the 22, at 2:00 p.m. Literacy week corresponding with Dr. Seuss’s birthday will be March 4-7. There will be daily literacy events for students and staff. The Cultivating Readers program will be at the elementary school Tuesday, March 5th. The program shares information that is helpful for the teachers and benefits students. Parent-teacher conferences will be March 11-13 and there will be a book fair during the same time. Idaho Power will give a presentation Thursday March 14th and spring break will be March 18-21.
High school senior Hunter Hastie did a presentation of the FFA programs scheduled for the week including an update on the success of Valentine flower sales. The students received 20 more orders than last year. She stated that the district floral completion will be held at the Cambridge high school next month. There is now a floral cooler at OH honey with fresh flowers for sale. The FFA is sponsoring activities all week culminating in an assembly on Thursday where one unlucky teacher will have the honor of kissing Pickles the pot bellied pig. There are jars in the office with each teachers name on one. The one with the most pennies in their jar at the end of the week wins, (or loses, depending on your perspective.) Rumor has it Mr. Davis’s jar had to be replaced with a small bucket.
Mr. Butler covered the remaining items on the agenda including possible action from an attendance hearing, reopening plan, adoption of policy 9605 regarding school bathroom facilities. Next year’s school calendar was reviewed and adopted. A discussion was given by Christy Crocco, school board chairperson, concerning her day spent at the statehouse where she was able to observe the State Board of Education discuss and enact legislation relative to Idaho schools.
