Lumberjacks Celebrate Homecoming

The week of September 23-26 was Council High School’s homecoming week. The theme of the week was Plunge the Ponies, a reference to the Horseshoe Bend Mustangs, the team they were playing against. The football team demolished the Mustangs, the score reading 52-0 at halftime. The second half featured Council’s second string, making a much more back-and-forth battle. At the end of the game, the score was 58-6, Council. The volleyball team played very well against their tough competition, but ended up losing to the Mustangs.
Council students got excited about the games with their spirit week beforehand. They decorated their hallways to the theme, featuring toilets and many plungers and an underwater scene. On Monday, the students dressed like hippies for 60’s day. Tuesday was Cops and Robbers day, so the hallways were full of students dressed in all-black and teachers wearing their best cop-costumes. On Wednesday, students got to dress up with their best friends for Iconic Duo day. Some of the costumes included the Scooby Gang, Subway Surfers, and Ninja Turtles. Thursday was the best day by far, when all the students dressed up in their Lumberjack gear for Spirit day!
Thursday was a half day schedule in school, so after their classes, students enjoyed a pep assembly, serpentine, and parade. After all the cheering and excitement, the classes battled against each other in a sand volleyball tournament, a Homecoming tradition at Council High. The seniors won the championship game, continuing the legacy of seniority at Council High.
By Saturday, students had had so much fun that it was impossible not to continue the excitement at the Homecoming dance. Senior Andrew Mendenhall says, “It was definitely the most fun homecoming dance I’ve ever been to.” Many attendees would say the same. Homecoming was a major success for the Lumberjacks, as their school spirit and fun traditions continue.
