Lumberjacks Maroon the Pirates 46-7

In a game that was never originally on the schedule, Council used a steady run game and a “bend but don’t break” defense to overpower Notus.
Council was supposed to play Horseshoe Bend, but the Mustangs canceled the rest of their varsity football schedule. Similarly, Notus was scheduled to play Rimrock, who also just canceled their season due to lack of players. That left both teams looking for an opponent on Oct. 10, so a game was improvised.
The Lumberjacks have a skilled group of dynamic playmakers and the workload was split between many of them. Jim Tucker had 107 yards on ten carries and quarterback Owen Hatfield had 103 yards on just six carries. Brody Davis (50 yards), Garrison Zielinski (26), and Thaine Bauer (21) all reached double digits on minimal carries.
On the defensive end, Owen Hatfield had a total of 11 tackles (regular, TFL, sacks) followed by Brody Davis (10 total) and Bryson Evans (9.5). Garrison Zielinski added to his interception total with a pick to seal the game and also had three defended passes. Remington Crowell anchored the line and picked up 2.5 TFL. Wyatt Hatfield added half a sack, a QB hit, two QB pressures, and a pass deflection. Council has the top-ranked defense in the state, allowing a stingy 6.5 points per game.
The Lumberjacks (ranked #2 in the state) now face a quality Salmon River team (ranked #6) at home this Friday night at 7:00 p.m..
