The 2024-2025 school year is off to a good start at Council Jr/Sr High. Students are getting used to being back in school, and 7th graders are getting used to switching classes every hour.

This year, many new and exciting classes are being offered, including Literature and Film Analysis, Music, International Foods, and Lifetime Fitness. Sara Conaway, a junior in the International Foods class, says, “It’s like a history class about food! And you get to make stuff!” All of the new electives help students enjoy school more than last year.

Pep club has also been reintroduced in Council, as an effort to increase school spirit. The members of pep club plan to teach and lead cheers, decorate for games, and help make everyone more excited about supporting the Lumberjacks! Lilly Mendenhall (11th), co-captain of the Pep Club, says, “I’m really excited for what pep club is going to do this year. We’re off to a slow start, but we’ve got some fun things planned for homecoming!”

This year, Council Jr/Sr High School has some new staff members, Mr. Powers, the history teacher, Mrs. Thompson, the English teacher, Mr. Nishitani, the Jr High Math teacher, Ms. Sheldon, the new music teacher, and Mr, Griffin, the new superintendent. Elise Shumway, a junior in the music class, says, “Ms. Sheldon is very nice and energetic! She loves kids.” The new teachers seem to be doing well and are adjusting to teaching in Council. On the first day of school, ASB held an assembly to introduce all of the new staff. The assembly included singing the fight song and some get-to-know-you games, which really helped the Lumberjacks get into the swing of things. The school year is looking good for Council High!
