The Meadows Valley FFA Chapter recently went on their first overnight trip of the year. They attended the Gem State Leadership Conference in Garden City. They started off their trip by going on a Career Success Tour to the City of Boise Urban Forestry Department. During this tour, they learned about how the city manages all 700,000 of their famous trees. They also learned about the equipment the city uses to take care of and keep the trees healthy. After a quick pit-stop to change into FFA Official Dress, they were off to tour the Capitol Building!

At the Capitol they marveled at the marble as they walked through the halls. There was a George Washington statue made from wood, a statue of the Greek goddess of victory Nike made from marble, and a Replica of the original flag of the 13 Colonies created by Betsy Ross, among many more. They also met Annie Henderson-Haws, a Representative of District 16 and our chapter advisor Ms. Rachael Melad’s aunt. After they toured the Capitol Building, it was time to check in.

They stayed at the Riverside Hotel in Garden City. They didn’t have much time to relax, as it was time for dinner. They feasted on Alfredo noodles with salad and a cookie for dessert. After dinner they attended sessions one and two. They talked about what leadership is and how to develop those qualities that leaders possess. After the sessions, there was a dance where everyone got to know each other and make new friends. After they danced, it was lights out for the group. They had to be well rested for the next day, as there were three sessions.

They woke on day two ready for their next sessions. They had the last three sessions back-to-back, with the first session starting at 7:30 a.m., and the last session ending at 10:30 a.m. During these last sessions, they created a poster about popular topics in agriculture. Buck Howard got to go up in front of the entire room to present his group’s poster. They checked out of the hotel by 11:00 a.m., and set off for home right after. They made a quick pitstop for lunch at Winger’s, followed by a stop by Dutch Bros as well. After these stops, they were all set and headed home. They arrived at the school at sunset, concluding their journey.
