Meadows Valley Holiday Happenings-Tree Lighting Dec 7, Lots Going On!

With the festive season upon us, Meadows Valley is preparing to give thanks, light the lights, and be generous. Between Thanksgiving and the new year, there are plenty of opportunities for all.

Festivities have already been under way as decorations start to appear around town. Renewal Salon held their annual wreath making event complete with a learning opportunity about Idaho’s evergreen trees taught by Audra Cochran, a University of Idaho extension educator.

Meadows Valley FFA students shared the spirit of giving on November 13 with a potato day and drive-through potato giveaway. The club also hosted a Friendsgiving dinner on November 20 and is planning a sledding and hot chocolate social for December.

The Meadows Valley Food Bank is getting ready for their December distributions and welcomes donations of unwrapped toys, crafts, games, science kits, and other gifts by Friday, December 5. Gifts can be dropped off on the front porch of the parsonage at 203 N. Heigho or givers can coordinate with Jean Correia (208) 315-4402 or Darcy McDaniel (208) 469-9281. Monetary donations are welcome and will go toward the purchase of food, personal hygiene products, and other household items.

The organization’s annual shopping event for parents who are clients of the food bank will be set up open house style this year on Sunday, December 7 and Monday, December 8 from 2:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. in the fellowship hall of the Methodist Church. The group hopes it will be a festive celebration for those attending.

Idaho First Bank is hosting a food drive. Non-perishable items can be brought in during bank operating hours.

The local elves are preparing to decorate for Christmas and you can join them. Meadows Valley Christmas decorating party will be held Saturday, November 29 starting at 11:00 a.m. Meet at the City park to join in on the fun. Decoration plans are in order for the community Christmas tree, City Park, and City Hall. Additional decoration donations are welcome.

In the spirit of giving, the second grade class at Meadows Valley School is hosting a coloring supply drive to benefit St. Luke’s McCall and offer coloring items and books for children in or visiting the hospital. New and unopened children’s books, coloring books, crayons and other coloring supplies can be dropped off in the school entryway by December 11.

New Meadows Parks & Rec department meets monthly and is currently working on plans for the annual Christmas Tree Lighting. The next meeting is scheduled for Monday, December 1 at 6:00 p.m. at the Depot. New or interested members are welcome.

The New Meadows Christmas Tree Lighting is scheduled for Sunday, December 7.

A new exhibit at the Depot Museum focusing on Christmases of the past will open the first week of December. The exhibits are organized by the Adams County Historical Society and are open during regular City Hall hours.

Get ready to shop at Meadows Valley Arts & Crafts Fair held at the New Meadows Community Center on Saturday, December 6 from 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. The Fair is advertising a wide variety of crafts and goods as well as a free photo opportunity with Santa and Mrs. Claus.

An opportunity for youth ages 10-15, the library is holding a new monthly Junior Maker Club that will start Wednesday, December 3 at 4:00 p.m. Classes will be held on the first Wednesday of each month through May 2026. The cost per session will be $5 per participant. All materials will be provided and participants get to take home and keep each kit. These are high quality kits that normally cost $29.95 - $79.95. Each class will have 8 spots per session and participants must sign-up & pay in advance.

The next monthly book club meeting is scheduled for Wednesday December 3 at 7:00 p.m. The club will be discussing their most recent read, The Invisible Life Of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab. New members are welcome.

Monthly storytime theme for December is Reindeer and the event is scheduled for Wednesday, December 10 from 4-4:45 p.m..

The MV Community Center continues hosting lunches every Monday except the second Monday of each month from 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. Their monthly potluck and Bingo night is scheduled next for Wednesday, December 10 with potluck at 5:00 p.m. and Bingo at 6:00 p.m..

Meadows Valley School Elementary students have been preparing for their Christmas Concert scheduled for Thursday, December 11 at 6:00 p.m..

A Meadows Valley student will be offering help with phones, tablets, and computers free of cost at the Community Center on Saturday, December 13 from 1-3:00 p.m..

Meadows Valley Youth Advocacy Coalition (YAC) and the West Central Mountains Communities for Youth Organization are teaming up to hold monthly Community Coalition Building meetings.
