Meadows Valley School had two graduation ceremonies on May 29, 2024. First the Kindergarten class was presented at 2:30 in the afternoon. Miss Meg showed the audience how the youngsters check in every day. They not only check in physically, but mentally and emotionally too. They line up and give a big leap forward all together. Next, each child chose a character trait they learned about this year, such as responsibility or honesty and gave an example of how they model that trait. Each child also had a letter from the word Kindergarten and took a turn holding it up and reciting part of a poem. Miss Katie spoke about how proud she is of them and instructed them as they move on to the next grade to keep asking questions, spreading kindness and keep dreaming big. She also thanked them for being awesome and wished them a summer of fun. Two fathers were then brought up onstage. John Rhodes and (Braxton’s dad) were tied together to demonstrate some of the character traits learned during the year. They did very well being able to avoid a tug of war. Miss Meg then gathered the students around her and read the book, “What the Road Said”. Its message was to be kind and curious and even if you take the wrong path sometimes, it’s OK. Certificates of promotion were handed out as each student said what they want to be when they grow up. Emma Clark - Ballerina; Leo Coronel Lopez - Firefighter; Poppy McDaniel - Astronaut; Patrick Edwards - Firefighter; Rose Morris - Doctor; Elijah Rhodes - Soccer Player; Boomer Swenson - Cowboy; Braxton - Cowboy; Averie Wallace - Doctor; Asher Marshall - Builder. Flowers were then handed out to families by the little tykes and pictures were taken. The whole thing was just precious. Futures are bright for the Class of 2036!

The next ceremony was the 8th grade graduation which was at 6:00 p.m. Mrs. Katey Basye encouraged the graduates to join activities like clubs, community projects, sports or just volunteer. She wants them to be part of something bigger than themselves, to learn teamwork, empathy and the impact they can have on the world around them. She also reminded them that growth happens when you step out of your comfort zone and that being kind, smiling and lending a helping hand can have a profound difference in someone’s life. Katey said, “Be true to yourself”, it’s easy to feel pressure to fit in but your uniqueness is your greatest asset. Katey gave each of the five girls that make up the class a bracelet to remember their strength and unique qualities.

Gracie Howard, a member of the graduating class, was chosen, by her fellow classmates to speak on their behalf. She thanked everyone for coming and said what a great job their parents had done helping them become who they are today. Graduating, to her, means more than completing a grade or course of study. It means growing, changing, and moving on. She thanked the teachers for their support and she can’t wait to see what memories high school will bring.

Dee Fredrickson then handed out certificates to Gracie Howard, Dakota Larimore, Carla Mendez Vargas, Jannette Montemira, and Makira Serjanej. Jillian Thomas also graduated but was not present at the ceremony. Congratulations class of 2028!
