Yvette Cadeaux, Cambridge Correspondent.

Yvette Cadeaux recently moved to Cambridge to be close to her daughter and three grandchildren. She is enjoying the peace and serenity of small town living while also enjoying spending time in nature and visiting hot springs. She is grateful for the opportunity to get back to her journalism roots as a weekly contributor to The Record Reporter.

“I spent most of my 20s and 30s working in journalism,” said Cadeaux. “I wrote for a variety of publications, ranging from small alternative newsweeklies, to daily newspapers, to monthly magazines with an international readership.” Cadeaux has performed almost every role you can think of in journalism – from working in the circulation department, to being in charge of the classifieds section, to interviewing popular musicians as an entertainment reporter. For 16 years, Cadeaux wrote for a publication that was distributed worldwide in Tower Records stores.

“I used to get mail from readers in Japan who read my articles,” said Cadeaux.

After retiring from journalism, Cadeaux had a long career in education, teaching in charter schools and acting as a supervising teacher for students who were homeschooled. She also ran her own private school for three years. Cadeaux homeschooled her own three children and was always involved in their education.

“My career as an educator had a lot of crossover with our home life as homeschoolers,” said Cadeaux. “An educator by profession, I was also deeply involved in the education of my own children.

Cadeaux was one of the founders of a charter school in Lava Hot Springs, Idaho, where she maintains a part-time residence. Currently, she is the vice chair of the school board and also chairs the safety committee at Lava Hot Springs Academy.

Although Cadeaux retired from her full-time teaching job in 2021, she still keeps her teaching credential current. Currently, she is pursuing a doctorate in Educational Leadership, with a concentration in Instructional Design and Technology, from Idaho State University.

In her spare time, Cadeaux enjoys singing and performing, and spending time with her grandchildren. She hopes to start a community karaoke night where children and adults can have fun singing with friends and family members.

Her interests are diverse, and she is particularly interested in reporting on community events, local politics, and education.
