The Midvale Lions Club invites community members to consider joining one of the largest and most respected service organizations in the world-Lions Club International. Our local club has a long history of serving Midvale, Cambridge, and the surrounding areas, and we are now looking for new members to help us continue that tradition of service.

The Midvale Lions Club began in 1965 when 25 local residents joined Lions Club International with sponsorship from the Weiser Lions Club. Over the years, our members have made a lasting difference in the community by helping those in need, especially through vision and hearing services. Midvale Lions Club played a key role in the creation of the Idaho Eye Bank in 1969, one of only two such facilities in the United States. This organization, now known as Envision and located in Boise, processes eye tissue that is sent around the world to restore sight. Envision also operates a low-cost vision clinic, helping people all over Idaho and beyond.

Locally, Midvale Lions Club has assisted individuals affected by fires, car accidents, medical hardships, and has provided countless pairs of eyeglasses. During the devastating floods of 1997, our club provided financial assistance to every home in Midvale and Cambridge that was damaged by the flood, prepared daily meals for flood cleanup crews, and helped the community recover. We have also supported the Washington County Fair and Rodeo Board, Cambridge Museum, Cambridge Clinic, Tri-Valley Titan sports programs and many more community projects over the years.

One of our most favored fundraising efforts is the Valentine’s Day Scholarship Bake Sale. A sweet tradition with a powerful purpose. All funds raised from the bake sale go directly toward scholarships for graduating seniors, from Midvale and Cambridge, pursuing vocational education-students preparing for careers in trades and technical fields that keep our community strong. From electricians and mechanics to healthcare technicians and skilled craftsmen, these students represent the future workforce, and the Midvale Lions Club is proud to invest in their success. This year our Valentine’s Day Scholarship Bake Sale will be Saturday, February 14 from 10-3 at the Midvale Veterans Memorial Hall in Midvale.

Each year, Midvale Lions Club members dedicate their time and talents to conducting vision and hearing screenings for elementary students in both Midvale and Cambridge. These screenings are more than routine checkups; they are life-changing interventions. By identifying potential vision or hearing challenges early, Lions help ensure children can succeed in the classroom, participate confidently, and reach their full potential. For many families, these screenings provide peace of mind and access to support that might otherwise of unnoticed.

While we are proud of what the Midvale Lions Club has accomplished, our membership numbers are currently low. We are asking for the community’s help to rebuild our club by welcoming new members who can bring fresh ideas and help keep our service work going strong for future generations. Membership brings together neighbors who care deeply about making a difference. Whether you’re a long-time resident or new to the area, joining the Midvale Lions Club is a chance to build friendships, develop leadership skills, and be part of something meaningful.

If you are interested in joining or would like more information, please contact Lion Lois Sutton at (208) 550-0446 or Lion Christy Crocco at (208) 989-7015.
