What is Mindfit? It’s a brand new documentary series about mental health and it’s being presented here locally in Cambridge. Current estimates are 1 in 5 Americans suffer from some form of mental illness. This four part series describes the historic treatments of mental health issues and brings us up to date on current treatments and new breakthroughs. Mindfit identifies ways the stigma of mental illness has emerged over the decades in this country and how these opinions often inhibit a person from seeking help.

This program strives to inspire hope and let people know they’re not alone, that others have experienced the same life changing circumstances and have made it through. The topics discussed in the four one hour sessions include anxiety, depression, trauma and suicide. In this country depression is the leading cause of disability and last year every 14 minutes someone decided to end their life. Idaho’s suicide rate ranks twelfth in the nation. It’s hard to believe that staggering statistic.

You will hear stories of real people who have faced their mental illness challenges head-on and see what advice emerges for you or a loved one who might be struggling right now. Mental health resources are limited in our rural area and that is why this event is so important. This faith based free event will be offered on Thursday and Friday, April 4th and 5th at 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, April 6th at 11:30. All dates are at 2787 Highway 95 at the Cambridge Seventh Day Adventist Church. Local community resources will be available on Saturday with free drawings at each session.
