MV Basketball: Junior High Kicks Off Season with First Games

Meadows Valley School’s Junior High boys and girls basketball teams played their first matches of the season on Tuesday, January 21 against the Cascade Ramblers.

The girls played a strong game taking the lead near the half and then playing a back and forth scoring battle finishing the final quarter tied at 19. The girls team, made up of only seven athletes, showed their teamwork and skill supported by Coach ShawnDale Howard. The tie was broken by a “sudden death free throw contest” that ended in a win for Cascade. The final score was 20-21.

The boys teams competed next in a tough contest. The team of eight athletes played against Cascade’s roster of ten. Coach Bart Carpenter has been encouraging his team to have strong attitudes and keep working hard and their camaraderie showed well. The game ended with another win for Cascade with a final score of 24-29.

The teams took to their home court again on Friday, January 24 this time against the Council Lumberjacks. Both teams came out strong and played exciting games showcasing growing talent and passion. The girls game concluded with a score of 13-36 in Council’s favor and the boys game ended 17-33 in Council’s favor.

The team’s next game is scheduled for Monday, February 3 for another try against the Council Lumberjacks. Their next home game is scheduled for Thursday, February 6 against Tri Valley.
