New Logo for City of Council
Council’s city council meeting was held on Tuesday April 8th at 6:30 p.m. After approving last months meeting minutes and financial statements.
The meeting started with Great West Engineering’s Andrew Kimmel giving a few updates on the water project. The plans and specifications are ready to go to the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) and were sent in on April 9th. The water project is expected to start in the fall, take a winter break, begin again in the spring and be completed during the summer of 2026.
Kayla Brown with J-U-B Engineering gave an update on the airport runway facelift project. The project is expected to start this summer depending on when the grant money will be received. The airport has received two bids for the project so far and both bids were lower than expected which is great news. Because of that, the cost of the project will be covered 100% by grants.
Kathy Hughes (airport manager) gave additional information on the airport. The runway edge lights are still not working. Pilots are notified about this through a NOTAM (notice to airmen) publication. A draft grant has been submitted to ITD Aero. Also, a broken water pipe was fixed by Caleb Shumway with public works. Hughes will attend an Idaho Airport Management Association (IAMA) annual meeting in Nampa on April 15. She is acting as the IAMA President and will give a summary of the meeting during the May city council meeting. On May 3, a short take off and landing clinic will be held, more information on the clinic will be covered in the Record Reporter.
Next, Ashley Scott (city clerk) gave her monthly report. The building inspector informed the city that 203 California has been boarded up for safety and security. Scott is currently creating an advisory committee to work with Great West Engineering during the water project. She has seven people on the committee so far with a goal of getting 8-12 people. The Caselle software training that city employees attended last month went well and a new bill pay system might be implemented in the future.
Caleb Shumway gave the monthly Public Works report. A new operator has been hired. The city’s three water wells will be monitored for PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) due to a requirement by the DEQ (Department of Environmental Quality).
Lastly, Adams county prosecuting attorney Peter Donovan offered his services to assist the city with misdemeanor cases. The council agreed to think about it and get back to Mr. Donovan. A new city logo was voted and decided upon. Katie Church with the Chamber of Commerce asked the city to split the cost of putting an ad in Expedition Magazine. The add promotes events held in Council throughout the year and has a short write up about the city. Council members approved a motion to pay half. Then they adjourned to go into an executive session. The session ended with no action taken.
