The Week of the Young Child, every April, is an annual celebration, established by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) in 1971, recognizing that the early childhood years are what lay the foundation for children’s success in life.

New Meadows celebrated this year with an event every day at different venues around town from April 8-12.

Meadows Valley Public Library started things off with twenty hidden dollar bill stickers. Eighteen young ‘uns looked for stickers (one per child) and then traded it in for a real dollar that they kept or bought something from the bake sale that’s going on at the library all month!

Tune-Up Tuesday was at the Meadows Valley Community Center. Over fifteen kids tuned up their body with an exercise video and then different exercise stations. Delicious banana bread and fresh fruit was also served!

On Wild Wednesday, thirty three children showed up for Planes storytime at the library where they listened to fun stories, made three paper airplanes, had a plane throwing contest and won prizes!

Thursday Thanks took fifteen kids to the park to do chalk drawings on the sidewalks of messages of thanks and inspiration. They also had cookies and had fun playing on the playground.

The last day was Friday Fun at the 1911 P&IN Railroad Depot. Marla and Morris Krigbaum with the help of Bev Chapman put on an interesting, educational and fun presentation for about fifteen youngsters. Each child got a badge with a RR job title on it. When that job title was called they described what the job entailed. Some jobs were ticket agent, conductor, porter, and lubricator man. Everyone also went outside to see what the rails look like, feel how heavy they are and talk about signage for railroads, especially the STOP sign!

Thank you to everyone that puts forth effort to promote and inspire quality early childhood experiences for our youngest citizens!
