It’s time to “Unearth a Story” at your local library. The New Meadows Public Library kicked off its Summer Reading Program this past Wednesday, June 10 with storytime, crafts, games and prizes galore.

During the last week of school, elementary students took field trips to the library to learn about the program. Library Director Audrey Crogh answered questions and explained details. Students and teachers also received themed bracelets, color changing cups, dino candy and an info sheet.

Summer sign ups began June 4 and each registered child received a free goody bag. Assisted and independent readers of all ages are still invited to join the summer reading program. Prize tickets are earned through book reading, completing mini book reviews and attending summer reading programs that take place each Wednesday from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. through July 22.

Each week the program has a different theme. July 1 will be movie day and they will be showing Disney’s Dinosaur from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. The program ends with a last hurrah water games party in the New Meadows City Park on July 29 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Kids must already be registered and have completed some book reports to attend the party.

If you are not a child, fear not, for you too can participate in the summer reading program. Registration for adults and people 16 and older is open and participants can fill out their own mini book reports based on books they read, including audio books, between June 4 and July 29. One ticket per book will be awarded and entered in a random drawing for the final prize which includes a $100 Amazon gift card, canvas book tote, insulated tumbler and a key chain.

You can visit the library in New Meadows at 400 Virginia Street Monday through Friday 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Saturdays 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m..
