The City of New Meadows celebrated their annual Christmas Tree lighting event this past Sunday, December 8 with ornament making, hayrides, treats, caroling, and lots of fun.

Festivities began at the library where visitors were greeted with holiday tunes and cheerful decorations. Decorative glasses were available for all along with a shiny wall of streamers for taking photos. Cookies and treats were available and guests could choose two holiday animal popsicle stick ornaments to create, one to put on the city tree and one to take home.

Soon murmurs turned into cheers that the hay rides had arrived in front of the library. Trucks pulling flatbed trailers decked in hay bales and Christmas lights were provided by Dryden Ranch and Ranch View Venue. Families filled the bales waving light-up wands and singing some carols. The hay ride ended at The Depot where people were greeted with more treats of hot chocolate, hot apple cider, cookies, popcorn, and candies. People warmed up by a cozy fire and took pictures with Santa and Mrs. Claus. The famous pair had a busy weekend with a visit to MeadowCreek’s Holiday Craft Fair on Saturday as well as sitting for pictures and visiting at the City’s tree lighting event Sunday.

Guests could also go into the Depot for warmth and treats. Submissions for the Children’s City Mural Drawing Contest were on display in the Depot and visitors could place a vote for their favorite drawing. The side room was decorated for a Christmas storytime with Marlene Clark who also passed out candy canes to visitors. A slideshow played pictures from construction at the New Meadows Youth Center as well as renderings and design plans. Downstairs, treats and warm drinks and places to sit and warm up were available. What a fun way to kick off this cheerful time of year!
