It will be a colorful summer at the Meadows Valley Library! Summer reading program sign ups begin Thursday, June 5 for readers of all ages. The theme this year is “Color Our World”.

The first 100 kids to register receive a free goody bag.

Summer reading is important to keep kids ready to learn and succeed. Besides the benefits for memory, vocabulary, and expanded learning, did you know reading can also help reduce stress and improve sleep?

Seven free weekly Story Time Programs will be held Wednesdays from 1-2:00 p.m. for children up to age 16 and will each include reading, crafts or games, and a treat. The eighth week is a celebration party in the City Park. Daily and weekly games and random prize drawings will occur throughout the summer.

Story Time dates and themes are:

June 11th: Color Our World!

June 18th: Nothing Rhymes with Orange

June 25th: Green is Grand

July 2nd: Movie Day— Harold & The Purple Crayon — (this program is 1:00 to 3:00pm)

July 9th: Mellow Yellow

July 16th: Seeing Red

July 23rd: Blue, Blue, Blue!

July 30th: Water Games Party @ City Park — (this program is 1:00 to 3:00pm)

People age 16 and older are also welcome to participate in Summer Reading and can enter the prize drawing for an All Idaho Gift Package that includes an Idaho Mug, Book Tote, Idaho Bookmark, Idaho Magnet, two Idaho Books, and a Potato Doll. Readers will get one entry for each book they read and review (including digital & audio books). One winner will be chosen by random drawing on Wednesday, July 30. You do not need to be present to win.

Last summer, 97 children ages 0 to 15 participated in the summer reading program. Participants and their families are never charged a fee, but there are costs associated with running this program. You can help the library provide this valuable program by sponsoring one or more Summer Readers for just $10 each. If you would like to be a Sponsor, please send donations to: Meadows Valley Public Library, P.O. Box 436, New Meadows, ID 83654, or drop your donation at the library.

The library Board of Trustees Annual Meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, June 16 at 3:00 p.m. and is open to the public.

Book Discussion Group’s next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, July 2 at 7:00 p.m. They will be discussing The Alice Network by Kate Quinn. New members may join any time and participate on a month-to-month basis.

The library’s regular hours are Monday through Friday, 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Saturdays, 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The Library will be closed Thursday, June 19 in observance of Juneteenth.
