At Monday’s regular board meeting, Midvale School District Superintendent Matt Jones announced that he wants to have an open house sometime in October, perhaps on the 23rd, to feature the school facilities, especially the new livestock building and the machine shop. That date is tentative right now.

In other items Jones reported that he plans to begin producing a school newsletter to go onto the website, and out to parents, staff, board and anyone interested in the school activities. It will feature new staff, student and staff successes, etc. It may be published quarterly or monthly, as the need dictates.

Enrollment numbers are down from last year. Students K-12 total 120. Last year ended with 133.

The two copy machines have leases which are up in October. The good news is that two new ones with more advanced features will replace them and will also be lower cost to lease.

The superintendent had praise for how the first week of school went because the clerk, Sara Kindall, “was on top of everything regarding schedules and details.”

The cooperative sports meeting was set for September 8 at Midvale at 7:00 pm.

The board approved the request by the superintendent to pursue solutions to the rainwater runoff problem created by the paving project. They want it solved before winter. The proposed plan is to route the water over to one of the city’s storm drains and send it to the river. The paving contractor declined to take any responsibility for the problem.

Bus supervisor Ken Carpenter presented this year’s busing routes. There are two, one with the handicap bus. The board approved the safety busing for those living within 1 ½ miles of the school.

Other items approved were the advertising for fuel bids, updating signatures on banking accounts, and the audit presented by Quest CPA for the 2024-2025 year.

The school’s tech advisor, Mr. Peterson, presented a system by Wyebot that would place ten monitors around the school to alert the staff to any problems concerning Wifi and internet connections. The system is passive with only receivers, no transmitters. The board tabled the item until more information could be understood about the system and also the payment required to lease it.

The next regular meeting will be on September 22 at 7 pm.
