Project Prom Encore

On Saturday, March 8th, Council local Cheyenne Warner-Bennion, organized the first Project Prom event in Adams County at the Council Valley Free Library, with the aid of Council librarian, Milise Blanton. The event was designed to give girls from all over the area a place to come and “shop” for a beautiful formal dress for prom or any other special event - all free of charge! The event was so successful, that on Friday, March 21st, Warner-Bennion and Blanton decided to bring Project Prom back for an encore!
Cheyenne Warner-Bennion used to be very involved in the beauty pageant world, and got the idea for Project Prom from one of her “Sash Sisters” Dawn Quednow, who also helped with the event from across the country by gathering and sending former pageant gowns to Council. One of her fears originally was that no one would come to the event, but she realized that if even one girl came and found a dress that she loved, it would be worth it.
Her fears turned out to be completely unfounded, as during the first Project Prom event, over 30 local girls came to the library and found dresses that they loved and wanted to take home! “The parking lot was full!” said Warner-Bennion.
While it was wildly successful and they heard nothing but positive feedback, there were several high school students who had reached out saying they could not make it to the first event, and were still interested in finding a dress, so Blanton and Warner-Bennion thought, why not do it again? With the help of their many volunteers they set up the dresses and accessories all over again for the community and found gowns for even more local ladies!
Thank you to all the volunteers and community members who helped put together these events for our youth! Warner-Bennion especially wanted to thank Council Ambulance and the EMS workers who came and helped with the first event, For Keeps Floral in Cambridge who donated prom flower arrangements to three lucky attendees, Wild at Heart Salon, Huptye, Adams County Sheriff’s Office, and the Council Valley Free Library for hosting the two events.
