500 colorful ducks were dumped into the Midvale pool last Tuesday with a lineup of swimmers waiting to be chosen to be the “pickers”. After postponing the raffle scheduled for July 4, the pool board continued to sell tickets until all 500 were sold. Tuesday’s drawing for the seven prizes was done by the swimmers. Afterwards they competed to roundup as many as they could with three of them winning prizes for catching the most ducks.

The raffle winners are: Cole Bush $250 Scheels gift card, Robin Cathey $250 Larry H. Miller vehicle service, Kathy Gladhart Custom Corn Hole board, Scott Fairchild Weiser Classic Candy, Jeri Soulier Kind2All Honey, Ron Carter Weiser Tractor Supply, and Virginia Seid won a prize from Scentsy. Virginia said, “It was a cute little gift basket from Kristin Nolte.”

In past years, it was quite possible that hikers on the Weiser River Trail coming from the south may have seen some of those little plastic creatures heading to Weiser. The ducks were dropped upstream from the Midvale bridge while everyone watched the race to the finish line which was just underneath the bridge. Just as with people, some would get caught in the bushes, or they would form a bunch, but there was always some who caught the current and made for a great race. However, retrieving all those ducks was not easy and took several volunteers willing to brave the river. Now, the pool board can keep all their ducks, in a row if they want.
