Rain, Rain and More Rain

It will be no surprise to anyone to hear that this has been an exceptionally warm winter. Just how warm? Here are some stats on the temperatures, precipitation, and snowpack so far.
2025 turned out to be a record warm year for much of Idaho, including Boise and McCall, where it tied for second warmest year, and McCall, which came in at 5th warmest, according to the National Weather Service. Both McCall and Boise also set record high temperatures on Christmas Eve, as did Ontario, OR on Christmas Day.
It will be no surprise then, that the snowpack is below normal. Snow water equivalent for the Weiser Basin is at only 62% of median, and the Payette Basin only 76%, with some outlying points such as Long Valley coming in far below that at only 21%. Despite this lack of snowpack, precipitation totals are actually near normal or above normal across all of Idaho, according to the National Weather Service.
What do all these numbers mean for the upcoming year? Time will tell!
