In a very short span, Council’s track athletes broke five school records, four of which were over 40 years old! Some of these records had seemed almost unreachable.

Council’s varsity boys 4x400 team (Rowan Green, Owen Hatfield, Ayden Heinemeyer, Greer Green) broke a school record set 43 years ago, back in 1983 during Council’s track glory days. They have been working toward this goal for three years now and finally got it done. The old record was 3:33.6 (David Tassano, Dan Green, Darren Gibson, George Green). The new record is now 3:30.89 and will likely be pushed below 3:30 before districts and state are done. What a tremendous accomplishment!

An interesting tidbit regarding this record is that Dan Green, who is one of the relay team members who had the record, is the grandfather of both Rowan and Greer, who helped break the record. Also, George Green (different family) is Greer Green‘s great-uncle on the other side of the family.

On the same day, Owen Hatfield actually broke another school record as well - reclaiming his javelin record from his brother, Wyatt.

The junior high track team had records of their own in their sights. Three separate records fell in short order.

Tylynn Tucker broke LaVelle Gardner’s discus record of 87’8” from 1984. Tylynn’s throw was a whopping 89’7.5”.

In the 400 meters, Oaklie Green broke Becky Woods’ record from 1985 (1:05.74). Oaklie ran an amazing 1:01.61, which is the top time for any junior high girl in the entire state of Idaho this year, regardless of school size.

Finally, in a great tongue twister, Brig Bingham broke Bernie Ball’s 100m hurdles record from 1981. The old time was 18.0. The new record is now 17.57.
