On Main Street in Cambridge, you will find the Saddle Rack Bar & Grill, a new restaurant owned by John and Christy Veldstra. The couple previously owned Gateway near Hells Canyon. They make their home outside of Midvale where they run cows. It has always been a dream of Christy’s to own a restaurant. Christy came up with the name of the restaurant. She has always had a passion for horses and at one time she was a horse broker.

Walking into the Saddle Rack Bar & Grill, you are greeted by a warm, rustic atmosphere. For those who remember the building housing the local bank since the 1960’s, the remodel is a nice contrast. The restaurant now has a relaxed country feel. In several sections, the walls are lined with wood planking that display black and white pictures of those in the community. Pictures of friends, family, and familiar faces. One wall section features a picture of a baby calf that Christy raised on the bottle. Seating includes a mix of booths, tables and chairs, and barstools, offering a comfortable spot for everyone.

Christy has always loved to cook and will be doing the cooking for the restaurant. The restaurant will serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. The menu has a great selection of foods to choose from, no matter the time of day. An example of a breakfast choice is The Rancher’s Morning which includes 2 eggs, ham, bacon, or sausage with hashbrowns and toast or biscuit. The menu also has choices for kids to enjoy.

The meat will be fresh, never frozen, and sourced from a local Idaho supplier. The lunch and dinner menu will feature a nice selection of steaks and ribs, burgers and sandwiches, with plans to offer prime rib as a special a couple of times each month. The bar is already open and operating daily from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 a.m. Once the restaurant opens, it will be open seven days a week from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., with the bar continuing to operate during its current hours.

John and Christy are excited to have a community and family-oriented gathering place where people can enjoy a delicious meal and take time to relax. Keep an eye out for their upcoming grand opening.
