Special City Council Meeting: Ambulance District Dissolution
On Tuesday, December 16, the New Meadows City Council voted unanimously for the dissolution of the Meadows Valley Ambulance District. The meeting was a response to the previous City Council meeting where an understanding was reached with the Meadows Valley Rural Fire District Commissioners regarding next steps on the EMS District. The Commissioners stated that in order to move forward with the county in a timely manner and file approved paperwork for the Spring ballots, they needed a decision on dissolution earlier than January of 2026.
All City Council members were in attendance and Fire Commissioners and the Fire Chief were also present. Having reviewed the petition information and keeping in mind the information from previous meetings, the Council voted unanimously to approve the Resolution for the Meadows Valley Ambulance District Dissolution and Petition.
The resolution states that the Mayor and City Council have received a petition to form an ambulance district and dissolve the current district, noting that the City is within the boundaries of the proposed district. Also that they, “find that it is in the best interests of the residents and persons found within the boundaries of the City, that the City Council support the Petition, and agree to participate in the proposed new ambulance service district as set forth in the Petition, and consent to the dissolution of the Meadows Valley Ambulance District subject to voter approval of the proposed new ambulance district.”
The petition details the boundary lines of the proposed district, the proposed name, map, and details that the City of New Meadows is within the boundaries of the proposed district. The petition needed 50 signatures to pass and received 110 signatures.
The City Clerk stated she would take the paperwork to the County office the next day so it could be recorded there and the process could move forward.
Chief Buys authorization to hand over MOU they have been working on so the council could review. Fire Commissioners in attendance and said they would be happy to review any needed changes at the next meeting.
