Story Hour at Council Valley Free Library

On Saturday, November 15, the Council Valley Free Library hosted a special Thanksgiving Story Hour. The special Saturday story hours have been happening once a month at the library and each one draws a large crowd. The children listened to a story, danced a turkey dance, participated in a scavenger hunt, and made coffee filter turkey magnets!
Also at this story hour, Council High School Student Lilly Mendenhall read a children’s book she wrote and illustrated for her senior project. The book, called Clara’s Very Un-boring Adventure, was about a little bird who wanted to go on an adventure, and explored themes of growing up and leaving the nest, something Lilly said she wanted the story to reflect as she was in the process herself of transitioning from high school to college. Next year, Lilly plans to attend Brigham Young University in Rexburg, Idaho, where she wants to study elementary education. Lilly said she was inspired to write a book for her senior project because her favorite book growing up was one that her mother had written in college, and she wanted to do something that would have a lasting impact on generations to come, whether it was her own children someday or kids in the community. She will be donating a copy of the book to each the Council Valley Free Library and the Elementary School Library.
The next Saturday Story Hour is planned for December 13 and will be Christmas Themed, however, rumor is there may be a Grinch coming to spoil (or join in on?) the fun!
