Strategic Plan in the Works
On July 8 the Council School Board met for a special meeting. An executive session was on the agenda, however, only three board members were in attendance and they elected to table this session until more board members could be present at future meetings. Julie Pate recently resigned from her seat and Bob Grossen was absent.
The board anticipated approving contracts for projects around the campus but they haven’t received any bids yet. The board didn’t think that even if bids came in at this point that there would be enough time to complete the projects before school started.
The board, interim superintendent Brian Joyce and some teachers that were present had a strategic planning session. They want to take the input from last year’s community meeting nights and incorporate that into a strategic plan for the district. However, since it is summer and few people are in town, they decided to start this process when school starts. They set a goal to complete this plan by the end of the first semester.
The board approved the hiring of Dana Strong to be the new history teacher. The district has not yet received applications for the open 3rd grade and middle school teacher positions. Due to the lack of applications for these positions, the board declared an emergency which will allow them to hire candidates that do not yet have a teaching certificate.
