Tri-Valley Titan Wrestlers Take on Clearwater Valley North/South Duals

The Tri-Valley Titan girls and boys teams traveled back north this past weekend to compete in the Clearwater Valley North/South Duals at Clearwater High School in Kooskia. The 16 team event matches teams up with 10 other teams in team dual format over a two-day event. The North/South Duals give a chance for 2A Wrestling programs (319 students enrolled and under) to see critical matchups between northern and southern wrestling programs. The team competed in traditional duals, while the girls were able to have break-out pods to get head-to-head matches as well.
To help create an entire team with a wrestler in each weight class, two wrestlers were gained from Nampa Christian and wrestled in the 145 lbs and 152 lbs weight classes for the Titans, as well as three wrestlers from Garden Valley helped to fill the slots of 98 lbs, 132 lbs and the heavyweight spot. Two Titan girls filled spots as well, Emma Ford and Dusty Longtin added team points for the Titans.
The Titans were able to place an impressive 3rd place in the tournament behind St. Maries and Kellogg respectively. The winner of the tournament was based on total team points since not all teams saw the same teams. The Titans were able to rack up 532 total team points, only 4 points behind second place Kellogg at 536 points.
The Titans headed home with 6 wins, 1 Tie, and 3 losses. The Titans were victorious in the duels over Potlatch, Priest River, Lapwai, Lakeside, Grangeville and West Side. A tie occurred with the very strong Ririe program from eastern Idaho. All of the Titan losses were close duals and could have gone either direction. The Titans lost to St Maries 48 to 42, Kellogg 45 to 37 and to Clearwater Valley 45 to 42.
“As a team, we really performed well. We were just a couple critical match wins away from taking the entire tournament. That is a huge improvement in our team standings over the past three years attending the North/South Duals,” stated head coach Nathan Noah.
The momentum going into the final grueling weeks of wrestling season is upbeat. The Titans travel to Nampa Christian on Tuesday for the Western Idaho Duals and then will honor seniors for senior night on Friday, January 2nd vs McCall and Nampa Christian at Cambridge High School Gym starting at 6:00 p.m. Saturday, January 3rd the Titans will travel to Halfway Oregon for the Pine Eagle Tournament.
