Upper Country Singers Perform

Sunday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. the Upper Country Singers performed their annual Christmas concert for an audience of four hundred people at Cambridge Fairgrounds Exhibit Building. The building was packed full of people of all ages who had come to enjoy the music. The choir captivated the audience with their superb performance of a variety of holiday songs. The concert started out singing “It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas” and had people dancing in their seats. Daniel Sanchez performed “Mi Humilde Oraciòn (My Grown-up Christmas List)” and “Santa La Noche (O Holy Night)” in Spanish and charmed everyone with his soothing tenor sung in perfect pitch. The children’s choir was delightful as they sang and signed “I Feel Like Christmas”. Two children, Lucy and Ruby Landreth, bravely performed a duet singing “Come, Thou Long-Expected Jesus”. Anthony Soto and Evangeline Hooper thrilled the audience with a splendid dance while the choir sang “Getting’ In The Mood”. Nicole DeVries had everyone mesmerized while beautifully singing “Sleeping Adonai”. Choir director, Debbie Warren shared stories about each song in-between performances and did an excellent job of setting the mood to reel the audience in to the energy of each piece. It was two hours of laughter and tears as the choir did a top notch performance.
During intermission, choir members served cookies to the audience and Bobbie Givens was recognized for her years of volunteer service and presented with flowers. Bobbie is known for always being cheerful and has volunteered for many years to help out during the choirs performances.
Every year the Upper Country Singers perform a Christmas concert for the community and has understandably grown in popularity. The choir starts practicing the first Monday after Labor Day and meets every Monday from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Midvale School. Anyone is welcome to join. The choir has members from Council to Payette. This year the Upper Country Singers had 59 members, including the director Debbie Warren, the children’s choir director Laurel Sherman, pianist Donna Else and soundman Levi Morris. Debbie Warren has been the director for 15 years and is not sure exactly when the choir first originated but said it was started years before she came along.
When the concert was over the choir presented awards to Debbie Warren, Laurel Sherman and Donna Else for their years of dedicated service.
