Over Memorial Day Weekend Friends of the Weiser River Trail hosted their 23rd wagon and horse ride. Riders drove their horse trailers to Council, were bused back to Weiser where their horses were waiting and traveled about 14 miles on Friday to Primitive Camp in the canyon between Presley Trailhead and Midvale.

Cooks Lisa and Bob Bunch prepared the meals during the trip except for on Saturday night, when the riders arrived in Midvale and a dinner was hosted by caterers Steve and Angie Bumgarner, a dinner which was attended by over 70 people.

The City of Midvale opened their pool so the riders could take showers when they got there, before they headed to the dinner at the VFW Hall.

The City of Cambridge let the Bunches prepare meals in their 4-H kitchen.

On Sunday, the riders rode to Goodrich and on Monday rode to Council and loaded up their horses in the trailers they had left there.

FWRT Secretary Pam Haynes, who has been in charge of the event since 2016, said there were around 30 riders, including three children, a woman who drove from Texas specifically for the ride, four people from Portland, who have participated for the last few years, and a lot of riders from Southwest Idaho. Only two wagons made the journey, Haynes said transporting wagons is expensive.

She said many volunteers helped make the ride a success.
